Climate

The climate of Kefalonia is characterized by mild winters with many rainfalls, a lot of sunshine and almost arid summers.  In the comprehensive work of Kotini – Zampaka “Contribution to the study of Greek climate” (1983) it is presented the differentiation of the climate zones in the Greek area. According to this differentiation, “the climate of Kefalonia is classified as a marine or subtropical Mediterranean climate zone, characterized by the combination of the ocean, as a temperature regulator, with the advantages of the Mediterranean climate, thus avoiding the disturbing characteristics of both continental and oceanic climates”. On a bioclimatic point of view, the climate of the island corresponds to the Mediterranean zone of the hard-leafed Mediterranean vegetation.
